Is it possible to build your own solar panels?

Posted by admin on Aug-14-2010

My electricity bills are really getting out of hand. I’ve been looking into getting solar panels, and although I know they will save me money in the long run, I can’t afford to get them installed right now. I’ve heard that it’s possible to build your own, and I’ve always been good in the shop, so if this is true, I’d want to give it a try. Has anyone ever done this? Is it possible?

Yes it is possible to build your solar panel. But you must ensure that in your site there is sufficient sunlight and enough space to place the solar panel. There are some guides about how to build solar panel with only $200 budget.Check my source if you want to learn more.

Yes, but you still have to purchase the components. You aren’t going to be able to build an effective solar collector (a PV cell), but you could build the frame they go in, the mounts etc.

There are many ways to home build solar water heaters - look on-line.

You can do this for very little money. Check this site out. http://bit.ly/co9WgI

Know several retired people who have done this. They say it is not hard to do. But time consuming. But they don’t get in a hurry doing any thing.

Many web sights now offer "How To" on solar energy and sell you the directions which is ok. I am a subscriber to Backwoods Home Magazine and I know they have back isuues on this solar panel building, etc. They usually sell for $5 or $6 and mail to you. They also have a manual they put out on this subject for $20. Many who live in the backwoods rely on solar power for their energy needs and build their own systems. I have plans on a solar window collector box that attaches to the window using scrap material. I got this from a Popular Science magazine and plan on building my own, test it and might sell these. Green is the way to go now so get started. You are already interested. You are thinking right!

Electric panels are not feasible for most people. They are two super thin layers of polarized material. When the sun hits them electrons move from the first to the second layer with an amount of force. You can’t duplicate that at home.

What you could do is setup solar heating panels and run them against a Stirling engine. This technique is typically more efficient than normal electric panels anyway in industry. They have heat on one side and cold on the other to generate force. Hook that to any generator to produce electricity. If you are successful building a home system, blog about it, others will want to know precisely how you did it.

It’s very possible, and while it can take some time the money you
save will make it more than worth it. You will still have to purchase
some essential components, however a great deal of it can be
built yourself. There are a few places online that sell instructions.
These include a complete list of tools and parts you’ll need, as well as
giving you step by step directions on how to do it.

I’m halfway through making one myself, it’s definitely not a one
day project, but its coming along nicely for me so far. Good luck! I’m always happy
to see people not only stop getting ripped off by the electric companies but also get
their energy in a completely clean and renewable way.
