Do you have to take some course that certifies you to build solar panels or work in a factory that builds solar panels? Can you please fill me in on the information or send me a link to the complete info? Thanks
Thanks Stephen M and Oliver for that information it helped. But I was also wondering what courses I would need to take or whatever if I wanted to install them or work in semiconductor production.

Also what exactly is the pre-installation engineering work? Is it like what an electrician does?

What exactly do you want to do?

Do you want to install them? Do you want to do the pre installation engineering work? Do you want to work in semiconductor production?

You have not provided enough information as to what you are really wanting to do to allow your question to be answered.

If you just want to be an installer, I imagine just on the job training is required, but it would also pay the least.

>what courses I would need to take or whatever if I wanted to install them or work in semiconductor production.

Again, if you just want to be an installer, then on the job training may well be all you need.

If you want to work in semiconductor production, then your training could consist of getting an engineering degree of some sort (electrical, chemical, etc).

>Also what exactly is the pre-installation engineering work? Is it like what an electrician does?<

It could be, though it wasn’t what I thought of when I wrote it.

Before the solar system was installed on my home, a mechanical engineer had to look at the homes structure and determine that it was capable of holding the solar panels.

Then they took that information and a set of blue prints were generated by someone working on a CAD drawing system. They put all the info required by the local utility, the building inspectors and the installers onto the drawing and that is what all these people worked to while doing the install.

Now as far as the engineering side… there are engineers who are working to find cheaper materials or materials that more efficently convert light to engergy.

Yes, an electrician is also a very important person in the big picture too.

I see lots of people around here aim far to low as far as their career goals. I would hope you would go to school and take lots of science and math classes and aim for some of the higher paid engineering jobs.

Solar electric is also possible, but you would have to start with manufactured cells. It could be a fun project, but don’t expect to save money this way. Home built panels are illegal to connect to the grid, and generally would not stand up to repeated sun and rain. A panel that lasts only 5 years in the elements should theoretically be worth only 1/5 the price of one that is guaranteed for 25 years.

Keeping this in mind, you could look at instructables.com for ideas. No need to pay anyone for plans.

If this is what I’m thinking of (Earth4Energy is an example), the information being sold implies fantastic benefits but doesn’t deliver. It’s just vague information culled from free sources that someone could google on their own. If it really worked, you would see at least a few people in the neighborhood doing it.

There are a number of people actively working to discredit such schemes on places like Y!A, and they are doing a pretty good job.

Imagine if your house could get all of its energy for heating, cooling, and cooking from batteries that never require changing. Imagine, then that these batteries were cheap and as reliable as the sun. Well, thanks to advances in technology, and the use of photovoltaic solar panels, its not a dream - it really can be done. It is possible to build a system that not only utilised the suns energy but can even work when there is no sun. By converting some of the suns energy to hydrogen, the element that makes up 75 % of the sun’s composition, its possible to then store this hydrogen for use in cloudy weather.

Photovoltaic solar panels and a stored hydrogen system can easily be retrofitted to an existing home, and many people believe that this will become a model for most modern homes in the near future. The system requires solar panels, storage batteries, hydrogen electrolyzer, generator, and tanks. Now this all sounds expensive and complex but it’s not, and it’s worth remembering that the end product is free electricity .. for life!

The system basically works like this. The photovoltaic solar panels absorb sunlight, converting its energy into electricity. During the sunny months, this electricity heats, cools, powers appliances, fills the hot water tank, and provides energy to cook. At the same time, though, 60 % of the electricity is diverted to an electrolyzer that pulls hydrogen from water. This hydrogen is stored in tanks, and when energy from the stored hydrogen is needed, the hydrogen flows to a fuel cell where it is converted back into electricity. Clean, simple, and very efficient.

40,000 will get a smaller home off grid if you’re frugal. So, "not so frugal" + big house? I’d have to estimate around 100,000. You might want to put in some wind turbines too, so you can generate electricity at night, and on stormy days. And make sure you cut a deal with the local power company, so you can sell your excess, or buy a big storage system.

Today, it is easier than ever to build your own Solar Panel, with all the kits and methods available, your own homemade solar panel can be an effective way to produce your own power and save on future power bills. All the components required for creating your own solar panel are made available in most kits. These components typically include: solar cells, a soldering iron, flux and tabbing. Kits typically include detailed instructions on how to make a solar panel. Constructing a solar panel at home does not require professional expertise. All you need is a kit, guideline, clear idea and a logical mind. You can simply follow the step-by-step instructions available with the kit and create you very own homemade solar panels.

Homemade solar panel can be made from a collection of solar cells. Each solar cell produces a small amount of electricity, but collectively they can produce enough electricity to fulfill your household power needs. It is important for the panels to keep facing the sun to receive direct sunrays. It’s the crucial requirement for its working because again our logical mind says that the sun is the source of energy for our solar panels so it should not be barrier by shade or not-so-ample sunlight. There must be no hurdle between sun and solar panels, the way should be clear and direct.

You can choose from a number of tracking solar mounts available. The single-axis tracker is fixed at a vertical angle. The angel is manually maneuvered to follow the path of the sun, which is based on seasonal changes. For summer, the rule of thumb is to set the panels at your latitude minus 15, and for winter, you can set the panels at your latitude plus 15. The dual-axis tracker adjusts the vertical angle automatically. So you don’t need to worry about that either. It works easily and efficiently without any extra care and maintenance.

Biggest advantage of building and installing solar panel is that they are eco-friendly. They produce green energy to use the latest terminology. Other forms of electricity emit certain harmful elements that contribute to smog, and other pollution, while solar power is free from such perilous emissions. If you find you entail more energy output, you may add more solar panels to generate more power. At the end of the day it all depends on your own requirement of energy so you can adjust your solar panels accordingly. There is no hard and fast rule in the amount of panels, they more you want you can add to your roof with proportion to the space available.
