How To Build Solar Panels

We tested 11 solar panel kits so that you don’t have to!

electron flow is neg to positive

  1. Nomadd Said,

If the diode has a triangle with a line across the point, put the wide end of the triangle to the solar cell on the positive wire. If the diode just has a line across one end, put that line away from the solar cell.
    BobB has it backwards.

  3. Brutus Said,

Take your multi meter and measure the voltage across your solar panel, now take your diode and hook it in series with a resistor that is large enough to limit the current to about 10 milli-amps and hook it up to your solar panel. If you have the diode in correctly you should have about 0.6 volts DC across the diode and the rest of the voltage across the resistor, if not you will have the total voltage across the diode and none across the resistor as there is no current flowing.

We have a drawing on our products page that shows the polarity and how to connect a solar panel in series and in parallel.
